Quiet times at Myrtle Beach State Park.
For decades we have enjoyed visiting Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, during other than the hectic months of the summer season. As often as possible, we have reserved rooms for the week after Labor Day, so that hopefully the surf would still be warm but the rates would be lower and the pace slower.
But some of our best memories are of the really off-season: December, January, February. We recall waking on a Valentine's Day to the sight of snow on our balcony at the Yachtsman, and of later that morning seeing happy sledders alongside U.S. 17 at Murrell's Inlet. On a sunny winter day we picnicked beside the sea at Huntington Beach State Park. We often walk the shoreline at Myrtle Beach State Park; the accompanying photo shows its stunning surroundings and solitude.
