A juvenile Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) with a carapace about six inches long is seen in a wooded area on the south side of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This turtle will reach maturity in about 12 years, with a probable weight of around 175 pounds. Hopefully its diet will not include careless tourists who lose their way in the maritime forest. (Only slightly kidding!)
