Mary Lynn Lander Turner

Mary Lynn Lander Turner, 74, of Powhatan, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her home on September 30, 2017.

She is survived by her son, Stephen David Turner, daughter-in-law Jennifer Turner, and two beautiful grandchildren, Lilly Katherine and Owen Stephen Turner. Mary Lynn was married to David Russell Turner for 44 years and was widowed this past July [see below].

Mary Lynn was raised in Staunton, Virginia and attended Robert E. Lee High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in education from Longwood University. She went on to teach English, speech, and drama at both Chatham and Cave Spring High Schools in Virginia.

Mary Lynn will be remembered as a wonderful mother to her son and deeply devoted wife to her husband, David. She provided the best gift a mother could ever give — a solid foundation of unconditional love, nurturance, and acceptance.

From a young age, Mary Lynn was drawn to nature and enjoyed nothing more than time spent outside. She devoted her resources and time to charities supporting wildlife and conservation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the SPCA or World Wildlife Fund. Services are private.

David Russell Turner

David Russell Turner, 67, a resident of Powhatan, Virginia, was born on December 9, 1949 and passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017.

David and his wife Mary Lynn first met while on vacation in Virginia Beach. He had just graduated from high school, and she was taking a much needed summer break after teaching high school English.

Shortly before their marriage, David was privileged to serve in the U.S. Navy and was stationed overseas on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kennedy.

Given David's deep love of nature, in lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial gifts be made to the National Wildlife Foundation or the Audubon Society.
