Lavelle Thompson Jones
A memorial service for Mrs. Lavelle Thompson Jones will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, in the chapel of the Anthony Funeral Home, Hartsville, Tennessee. Father John Bender and Retired Pastor W.R. Cook will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Jones, 99, of Hartsville and Gallatin passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hannibal Jones [see their wedding announcement], her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Thompson, and her brothers, Tom Price and Lawrence Thompson. She is survived by nieces Susan (Dr. Robert) Stevenson, Valdese, N.C., and Nancy (Gene) Hudson, Valdese, N.C.; nephews Dr. Larry (Gini) Thompson, Soddy Daisy, Tenn., Dr. John (Jan) Thompson, Gallatin, Tenn., Dr. Maben (Julie) Thompson, Crossville, Tenn., Eric Thompson, Lebanon, Tenn., and Tommy (Baxie) Hartsville, Tenn.; 14 grand- nieces and nephews, one great- grand-niece and two goddaughters, Liz (Peter) Bumpas, Tampa, Fla., and Fran (Marvin) Coats of Winston Salem, N.C.
Mrs. Jones was an Associate Professor of Music and Piano at Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va., for 30 years. A native of Hartsville, she was a graduate of Ward Belmont School, Peabody University, The Chicago Conservatory of Music, and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She participated in numerous summer music festivals throughout her career and studied under well-known pianists Lawrence Goodman and Claudio Arrau. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Jones concertized in several states. Mrs. Jones was a friend of the Blair School of Music and valued her membership and her friends in the Nashville Piano Study Club, the Gallatin Study Club and the Nashville Women's Musicale.
