Notes
- The clipping is from the Bland Messenger, Bland, Virginia. The Mitchells and Burtons were residents of Bland County.
- Dora Isabell Mitchell later changed her middle name to Thorne. She was the youngest child of Timothy and Ardelia Mitchell, eleven years younger than her sister Daisy.
- Later Jim and Daisy Burton had four more children: Fred Houston Burton (1910-1956); James Davidson Burton (1913-1934); Annie St. Clair Burton (Harmon, 1916-1995); and Maggie Burton (1919-1940).
- Various sources list James H. Burton's middle name as Henderson or Houston. His headstone is engraved “James H.” Various sources list Dorse Burton's middle name as Davidson, Davison, or David. His grave is marked “Dorse David.”
- J. T. Taylor, mentioned in the article as having performed the wedding ceremony for Jim and Daisy Burton, was married to Ardelia Wohlford Mitchell's sister Cynthia Wohlford. See further biographical information at his tribute to Timothy Elijah Mitchell.
